THE PROBLEM

The apps you've tried aren't teaching you the language.

They teach you the app.

  • Duolingo

    Streaks, not language.

Five-minute drills you finish and forget by dinner. No reading. No writing. No place to actually use what you learn.

  • Anki

    Flashcards in a vacuum.

You memorise a word in isolation, then never meet it in a real text. Your vocabulary lives in a silo — separate from anything you read or write.

  • Everything else

    Three apps, three silos.

One tool for reading. One for drilling. One for writing. The words you save in one never come back in the others. You end up managing tools instead of learning.

Lex.

One place for reading, writing, and vocabulary — each one feeds the next.

Read leveled texts and save the words you meet. Those saved words come back as exercises. Write essays with the vocabulary you've built and get feedback that points you to the next thing to fix. No juggling, no silos.

HOW IT WORKS

Read. Write. Practice.

Three parts of one workspace — each feeding the next.

  • Read at your level.

Short pieces calibrated to your CEFR level, A1 through C2. Tap any word, get a translation, and save it to your vocabulary in one motion.

  • Write and get feedback.

Pick a prompt, write an essay, and Lex tells you where your structure breaks, which mistakes are blocking you, and how your level reads.

  • Practice what you've saved.

Every word you save — from a text, a translation, or an essay — feeds spaced-repetition exercises. Your vocabulary and your reading share one workspace.

IN THE READING VIEW

Read the text.Save the words that stick.

The reading view is where most of Lex happens. Tap any word for a translation, save it, and it comes back in your practice and in your next text.

  • 01

Tap any word for a translation

A small panel opens next to the word — no leaving the text, no switching tabs.

  • 02

    Yellow: already in your dictionary

Words you saved from previous texts show up yellow when you meet them again. Visible proof your vocabulary is compounding.

  • 03

    Green: added while reading this

Every word you save during this session appears in green — you can literally watch your vocabulary grow within one text.

  • 04

    Saved words become practice

Every word you save feeds spaced repetition. The next time you sit down to review, you're reviewing your own vocabulary — not somebody else's deck.

İstanbul'da ilk günüm

Turkish · Lex starter pack

Geçen ay İstanbul'a taşındım. İlk gün biraz heyecanlıydım çünkü bu şehirde hiç kimseyi tanımıyordum. Sabah erken kalktım ve kahvaltı yapmak için küçük bir kafeye gittim. Kafenin sahibi bana mahalle hakkında birkaç faydalı bilgi verdi. Orada yeni bir komşu ile tanıştım.

HOW YOU PRACTICE

Six ways to practice one vocabulary.

Every word you save is practised across multiple exercise modes. Not one shape of practice — six, so retention actually sticks.

  • 01

    Flashcards

Reveal the translation, then rate how well you knew it. Standard spaced-repetition loop.

  • 02

    Match pairs

Match each word with its translation. Fast pattern recognition.

  • 03

    Fill blanks

Complete a sentence with the right word. Tests recall in context.

  • 04

    Multiple choice

Pick the correct translation from four options. Recognition practice.

  • 05

    Typing

Type the translation letter by letter. Active recall — the hardest, most useful mode.

  • 06

    Sentence translation

    MAX

Translate a full sentence into the target language. AI grades your answer.

A NOTE FROM THE FOUNDER

Language apps got me good at quiz cards, but not at reading, writing, or actually using the language. Lex reverses that: read something real, save the words you meet, then use them in your own writing until they stick. I'm building Lex solo, in English and Azerbaijani, so more people can start from a language they already know — and reach one they want to.

QUESTIONS

The things people usually ask first.

  • No. The trial lasts three days and doesn't require any payment details. If you want to keep using Lex after, you can subscribe at $4–$19/month. Nothing is charged automatically.
  • Yes. Cancel from the DodoPayments billing portal in two clicks. You keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for, then it stops cleanly — no follow-up charges.
  • All 34. Every language ships with about 100 curated vocabulary entries at each of six CEFR levels (A1 through C2), fifteen leveled reading texts, and essay prompts across seven topics.
  • Yes. A1-level vocabulary and short reading texts are calibrated for first-time learners. You don't need any prior knowledge to start a language from scratch.
  • Basic ($4) is vocabulary and exercises in all 35 languages. Pro ($9) adds the writing and reading sections. Max ($19) unlocks the AI features — essay feedback with a CEFR estimate, AI text generation, smart word translations — all with generous daily caps so you can actually use them.
  • Essay feedback, prompt generation, and word translations are powered by OpenAI's models. Your essays are sent to the model only when you ask for feedback — never to train it.
